The Institute for Hypnosis is dedicated to educating people about leveraging language for self-liberation via guided meditation, zen meditation and intuitive discernment. It is safe, non-invasive, proven to help.

In addition to working with athletes and professionals, here's some client feedback about the experience Institute for Hypnosis after a recent online promotions (where we sold well over 300 vouchers). We are very proud of our independently verified 96% approval rating:

We work hard to educate the public about the myths, witch hunts and mischaracterizations often leveled at the safe, powerful, peaceful and simple tool of hypnosis (i.e., attention, relaxed concentration and imagination):

"The traditional view of the hypnotized person as someone in a state of automatism, possessed of transcendent powers, is still popular among the general public. This has obvious implications for legal issues concerning possible coercion through hypnosis and the use of hypnosis for interviewing witnesses. However, it is now the opinion of most researchers that hypnosis does not induce a state of automatism" -Hypnosis and the Law: Examining the Stereotypes

In his chapter on hypnosis in the book "Mind Myths: Exploring Popular Assumptions About the Mind and Brain," Graham Wagstaff of the Department of Psychology at the University of Liverpool notes:

"No matter what their theoretical persuasion, most modern researchers and theorists now indeed seem to reject claims that hypnosis can turn people into helpless automata (functioning without free will)… Indeed, reports that people have unwittingly been hypnotized into committing criminal acts are not only rare but have been treated with skepticism."

Here is what the scientific experts at WebMD say:

"Hypnosis is not a dangerous procedure. It is not mind control or brainwashing. A therapist cannot make a person do something embarrassing or that the person doesn't want to do."

And if that weren't enough to dispel myth with scientific resources, here's more scientific research:

"Coercion through hypnosis is a myth which will not disappear so long as it is fostered by uninformed hypnotists, who believe that all initiative and self-determination is surrendered by the subject to an "all powerful" hypnotist."

Wonder how effective non-invasive hypnotism can be?

Read the research science:

Hypnosis Most Effective Says Largest Study Ever: 3 Times as Effective as Patch and 15 Times as Effective as Willpower.

Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. A meta-analysis, statistically combining results of more than 600 studies of 72,000 people from America and Europe to compare various methods of quitting. On average, hypnosis was over three times as effective as nicotine replacement methods and 15 times as effective as trying to quit alone. University of Iowa, Journal of Applied Psychology, How One in Five Give Up Smoking. October 1992.

Hypnosis Subjects Lost More Weight Than 90% of Others and Kept it Off

Researchers analyzed 18 studies comparing a cognitive behavioral therapy such as relaxation training, guided imagery, self monitoring, or goal setting with the same therapy supplemented by hypnosis.

Those who received the hypnosis lost more weight than 90 percent of those not receiving hypnosis and maintained the weight loss two years after treatment ended. University of Connecticut, Storrs Allison DB, Faith MS. Hypnosis as an adjunct to cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy for obesity: a meta-analytic reappraisal. J Consult Clin Psychol. 1996;64(3):513-516.

Please note that hypnosis (like other self-help methods such as EFT-tapping, psychic readings, life coaching, etc.) is not licensed by the State of Utah and we cannot and will not diagnose, treat or otherwise handle any sort of mental disorders or physical illness. All sessions are for entertainment and self-help purposes ONLY.

"Congratulations and a big well done for your book! It is a great piece of work, very well researched and penetrates many of the more complex aspects of the subject whilst putting trendy, but almost ineffective derivatives of hypnosis firmly in their place. It is very well researched, quite deep in places, and includes a wide variety of sources which are all thoroughly noted. My full passion for all things hypnosis has been truly re-ignited!"

Hypnotist & international star of 60 TV shows

"I've spent much time in the company of hypnotists and in the company of hypnosis researchers (psychologists and scientist-clinicians), and from my experience there was no love lost between the two cultures in general. Many of their attitudes tend to be at odds to say the least. I have to say though that Jake comes as close to bridging them as both a practitioner of the arts and the aficionado of the sciences, as anyone. And I have a strong respect for that."
Todd Ian Stark

"Working with Jake before my three gold medal wins in the 2012 Paralympic Games was the icing on the cake. As an athlete I've spent thousands of hours preparing my body physically for peak performance. Jake helped my subconscious prepare for that peak performance as well. It truly was the fine tuning I needed so that I knew I was going to win those golds in London, all that was left was to do it! If you want to be your best self, in whatever you are seeking, I can't recommend Jake highly enough to get your mind and subconscious prepared for victory. Then all you have to do is go out there and do it!"
Muffy Davis
7 time Parlympic Medalist

“Working with Jake Shannon is for Warriors who are willing to go all the way, and say no more to the troubles in their lives. This is zen meditation on crack! I enthusiastically recommend Jake to everyone who has the balls to look at their unconscious minds."

"Hypnosis allows one to lapse into an alter perspective and thus, see their struggles and joys from an entirely different point of view. It allows the subconscious mind to integrate with the conscious mind. Jake Shannon is particularly adept at facilitating this integration and because of it, he is able to help a person to progress towards wholeness even when the solution feels out of reach or hopeless."
Teal Swan

"Jake is an amazing therapist. I have been to two other hypnotherapists and he is by far the best. He is very knowledgeable and talented. I have had great results and have been able to utilize new insights in my own practice."
Judy Thompson

"My recent session with Jake was absolutely amazing! He created a safe environment and his approach instilled confidence in his abilities. He assisted me in discovering the origin of a long-term problem and working out a permanent resolution. Enough weeks have elapsed to prove that my problem is indeed handled. Jake definitely earned the trust I place in him and I highly recommend his work to anyone who wants to make rapid and permanent progress with their issues."
